Ruth Nelson (Juergens)
June 11, 1930 – January 17, 2021
Age 90, was called home to the Lord on Jan. 17, 2021. Ruth was born June 11, 1930, in St. Paul, daughter of Herman Juergens and Leona (Thoelke) Juergens. She was preceded in death by brothers Manley, John, and Hugh Juergens. Ruth is survived by her husband of 69 years, Harold Hugo Nelson, and by four daughters and their spouses: Barbara (Eric) Burka of St. Louis, MO; Gail (Anton) Johansen of Fairbanks, AK; Susan (Nino) Pedrelli of Minneapolis; and Jennifer (Michael) Speca of Minnetonka. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a great- great-grandson. Ruth grew up in Belle Plaine, and was known for her adventurous and playful nature. She had a keen intellect, was valedictorian of Bethany Lutheran High School in Mankato, and graduated in 1952 with honors from Valparaiso University, where she met Harry. Harry and Ruth were married August 25, 1951, and moved to St Paul in 1956. She was a devoted wife, mother, and teacher. Ruth and Harry cherished family time at their cabin and a wide circle of friends. Ruth sat with her daughters as they learned piano and taught GED and ESL students. Her dedicated 65 years of service at St. James Lutheran Church in West St. Paul, and passion for cooking, needle work, and playing bridge are well known. Ruth was an adored wife, treasured mother and grandmother, loyal sister, and beloved aunt. A memorial service will be held at a later date, post-pandemic.
