William “Bill” Fredrick Wittenberg

February 22, 1948 – January 8, 2021
Age 72, of St. Paul, passed away January 8, 2021, following a battle with cancer. Preceded in death by parents, Ellsworth and Wilma (Langhorst) Wittenberg. Originally from Gibbon, Minnesota, Bill was a skilled carpenter who found joy in his work. His craftsmanship can be found in the built environment throughout the Twin Cities area, from modest homes to major landmarks. Bill most recently worked as a carpenter for M.A. Mortenson Company prior to retirement. He loved his family dearly, and he loved his neighborhood and neighbors on St. Paul’s West Side. Bill’s passion for hiking was difficult to match, with a particular fondness for long treks in the BWCA and other northern Minnesota locations. In addition to enjoying trails, he dedicated his time to maintaining them for others to enjoy. Survived by wife of 16 years, Deborah Kiminki; mother-in-law, Betty (Kiminki) Wittenberg; daughter, Gena (Kevin) Haire; son, Jason (Karen) Wittenberg; grandchildren, Amanda (Tyler) Ganz, Emily Haire, Calvin Wittenberg, and Carter Wittenberg; great-grandchildren, Kalista Ganz, Brycen Ganz, Hazel Oachs, and Owen Adolphson; former wife, Barbara Yescavage; and brothers, James (Kathy), and Galen (Alice). In Bill’s memory, please consider a donation to the Parks and Trails Council of Minnesota and/or Friends of the Boundary Waters Wilderness. Services are pending.
