Age 73 of Hilltop. It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Steve on December 11, 2020 at the age of 73 after a 3 year battle with cancer. Steve will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Linda of 50 years; children, Matthew (Angie), Luke (Emily) and Meshell (Randy) and grandchildren Mira, Maxum, Macy, Hazel, Brandi, Cody (Deandra), 2 great grandchildren, his loving sister, Bernelle Hay, brother-in-law John Barnes and many nieces and nephews, and in-laws who loved and cherished him. Also, his adopted brother Cheto, and all of his adopted Mexican family whom he loved dearly. Duane Gunter who was by his side for years and so many friends throughout his life which he valued deeply. Steve enjoyed meeting people and they became his best friend the minute he met you. He did amazing things his entire life. He was a builder and could fix anything. He lived in the City of Hilltop in Trailer City Park, the family business. Here he worked endlessly to provide a safe and well-maintained manufactured home park for his family and all the residents who lived here over the decades. He had a passion for his second home in Acapulco, Mexico where he visited since he was a childscuba diving, fishing with his dad, exploring everywhere and making lifelong friends everywhere he went. Preceded in death by his parents, Les and Maryann, sister, Lesley Barnes and in-laws Francis and Delores Girdler and brother-in-law, Tom Miller. Steve was loved dearly and will be missed deeply by his family and friends. We will meet to celebrate his life and retell his stories next year in the summer when we can come together safely to remember this one-of-a-kind person. In lieu of flowers, please keep Steve in your prayers and reach out to someone in need with a kind work or gesture. (Published in the Star Tribune on December 20, 2020)
