Flora Hall (Nurmi)

December 25, 1935 – November 7, 2020
Flora was born in Duluth, MN on Christmas Day 1935 to Aarno and Fannie Nurmi. Having grown up in Northern Minnesotas Finnish community, with Finnish as her first language she came to Minneapolis at age 18 with her son and called the city home for the rest of her life. Obtaining a degree in her thirties and entering the workforce for the first time as a widowed mother, Flora worked at St Mary’s Hospital/ Fairview for twenty nine years in a variety of roles, retiring at age 68 in 2004. Flora loved reading, learning, animals, and nature – particularly Northern Minnesota, and music with a particular fondness for Blues and Jazz. She enjoyed solitude but always welcomed the company of her cats and her closest friends and family. Flora is survived by daughter, Lenore Kaibel, son David (Catherine) Nurmi, Grand daughter Kelly (Rob) Holden, and Great grandsons Carter, Chase, and Caden. She is predeceased by her daughter, Davida Clapham, parents, and brothers Alan Nurmi & Pete Nurmi and sister Florence (Robert) MacDonald, grand son Steven Nurmi, and husband Lyle Clapham and dearest friend, Jackie Keogh as well as son in law Brian Kaibel. At Flora’s request, there will be no memorial service, but a private, very informal gathering will be announced at a latter date. Memorials preferred to Best Friends Animal Society.
