Robert L. “Bud/Nordy” Nordstrom

August 1, 1931 – November 1, 2020
Age 89 of Minneapolis, died at home November 1 surrounded by his wife and daughters. He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Albert, sister Lois Caswell and sister-in-law Nancy Whitney. He is survived by his wife Caroline; daughters, Lori, Lisa (Steve) Kuck, and Sarah (Steve); grandchildren, Jesse (ChrisDee) and Hanna (Kevin); great-grand-daughters, Stella and Lena; brother, Jon (Orinne); many nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors, and his little pug Theo. We are especially grateful for neighbors Phyllis, Dorothy and Walter. Bob was born August 1, 1931, in Minneapolis. 10-year old Bud was a caddy at Hiawatha Golf Course. Highly competitive, he excelled at athletics. He lettered in golf at Roosevelt HS, the University of Minnesota, and golfed with the 6th Army team. “Nord” was also on the Duffy’s Bar broomball team that wrote the original Broomball Federation rules. Later he was inducted into the USA Broomball Hall of Fame. He was a scratch golfer with a notoriously long drive, when asked how far that drive was, his son-in-law said, “he just liked to have people drive before him, then would smile and easily drive it farther.” In 1971 he achieved his goal of becoming Pro-Manager at Hiawatha Golf Course where he happily remained until his retirement in 1996. Everybody knew and loved Nordy. He was a good and kind man. He loved garage sales and alley junk, the Gophers, ice cream, Wrigleys Spearmint Gum, time at the cabin, searching for gold in MT and laughing with his family at their many dogs and cats. We will miss him deeply but we know he is on to greener courses…golfing with his buddies, Pepsi in hand, pug by his side. Due to Covid there will not be a service. Memorials preferred to Second Harvest Heartland or Nokomis Healthy Seniors. (Published in the Star Tribune on November 8, 2020)
