William “Bill” Richard Rasmussen
August 3, 1927 – September 15, 2020
William (Bill) Richard Rasmussen passed away September 15, 2020 at age 93 in the comfort of his own home, surrounded by loved ones. Bill was preceded in death by father Donald, Sr. and by his older brother Robert, younger brothers Donald, Jr. and Edwin and beloved friend, Lois Schirmer. Survived by daughter Bonnie, brother George, nieces, nephews and close friends. Bill was born in Fridley, MN on August 3, 1927. He entered the Army in 1945 and was honorably discharged in 1947. He was employed by the Minneapolis Public Works Department for 34 years. Bill was a good, Christian man who loved Jesus very much and enjoyed talking about Him to EVERYONE. He would read his Bible with the equipment provided by the VA. He liked listening to Christian programs, fishing and gardening. The VA Medical Center provided health care to Bill. Appreciation and gratitude is extended to the staff, including specialists, Home Based Primary Care, Veterans Transportation Services (VTS), Vision Loss Resources and the Adult Day Health Care Program (ADHC) for their excellent care. Bill especially enjoyed participating in the day care program. He often said the staff “treated him like a king.” They provided many forehead kisses and lots of hugs. Many thanks to the home health aids, to the Minnesota Hospice Team for making him comfortable in his final days, Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel for providing CD’s and DVD’s of their church services, and a very, very special thank you to niece Lynn Reynolds and friend John Cina for their dedicated help and support in the caring of Bill. Memorial Service will be on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at 11:15 A.M., at the Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel, 1 Tower Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55450. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Multiple System Atrophy Coalition (multiplesystematrophy.org), the American Macular Degeneration Foundation (macular.org) or to the Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation (fortsnellingmcf.org).
