Bonita “Bonnie” Kaye Smith (Haugen)

May 11, 1945 – August 13, 2020
Age 75 of Coon Rapids, MN died peacefully on August 13, 2020 surrounded in love by her family. Bonnie was born May 11, 1945 in Faribault, MN to Arnold O. and Adeline M. (Westphal) Haugen. She grew up on a farm outside of Kenyon, MN and graduated from Kenyon High School in 1963. That same year, she met Deane C. Smith of Randolph, MN when they went on a blind date to the Minnesota State Fair. For many years to follow, they would return to the fair to ride through the original tunnel of love – Ye Old Mill log ride. Bonnie married Deane on January 2, 1966. They raised their four children in Blaine, MN and later resided in Coon Rapids, MN. For many years, Bonnie cared for children at her in-home daycare until she went to work for JCPenney Co. where she worked for 16 years until retiring. Bonnie cherished time with her friends and family, and was steadfast in her Christian faith. She touched the lives and hearts of many. Bonnie is survived by her husband, Deane C. Smith of Coon Rapids; children Deanne (BJ) Biggins of Isanti, MN, Denise Star of Forest Lake, MN, Daniel (Rebecca) Smith of Buffalo, MN and Debra (Oscar) Smith Tejada of Atlanta, GA; 8 grandchildren, Joshua (Taylor) Star, Hannah Star, Chelsea (Chandler) Nash, Chandler Biggins, Hunter and Tanner Smith, Matias and Emilio Tejada; 3 great-grandchildren, Emma, Isaiah, and Eli; brother, Bryan (Laura) Haugen; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold O. and Adeline M. Haugen; brother, Gregg Haugen; sister, Patricia Otte; and grandson, Jacob Jeffrey Star. A memorial service will be held at a later date, still to be determined.
