Terry Charles Swanson

Age 71 of Virginia. , formerly of Big Lake, MN, passed away on July 28, 2020, under hospice care at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center.

Terry was born on December 13, 1948, in Monticello, Minnesota, to Wendell and Irene (Moshier) Swanson. He graduated from Big Lake High School in 1966 and went on to join the Army. Terry served in Korea during the Vietnam War from 1966-1969. He quickly promoted to Staff Sargent E6 at the age of 20. After his time in the Army, he worked for Control Data and as a Project Manager for Industrial Dredging & Engineering. He later spent many years as a successful car salesman in Elk River and then in the Atlanta Metro area. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and boating. He is best known for his love of fishing. He competed in countless fishing tournaments across the country. He was known to share his passion for fishing with his friends and family. Terry was generous and charismatic and loved spending time with his family and friends.

Terry is survived by his brother, Jim (Marcie) Swanson of Big Lake, MN; his children, Amy (Scott) Verbout of Minneapolis, MN; Erick (Linda) Swanson of Fergus Falls, MN; Keri (Brad) Hodgson of Loganville, GA; stepdaughter, Amie (Rob) Weaver of Brooklyn Park, MN; grandchildren, Maxwell, Matthew, Wyatt, Natalie, Kendall, James, and Madelyn; stepsiblings, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brother Joe Swanson.

A private family service will take place at Greenwood Cemetery in Big Lake, MN, with a public celebration of life at a future date to be determined.
