David Charles Johnson
February 20, 1955 – June 11, 2020
David Charles Johnson AKA “Harley Dave”, 65, of Cottage Grove, MN passed away unexpectedly of a “Major Cardiac Event” on June 11, 2020 in his home, with his wife Vickey by his side. Dave was born on February 20, 1955 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Leonard Joe and Blanche Barbara (Hopkins) Johnson. Dave graduated from Simley High School in 1974 and worked manual labor positions up until his retirement in 2017. Dave met Vickey in 2013 through a mutual friend, and they married on June 14, 2018. Dave’s passion for motorcycles started in the 70’s. He was an avid motorcycle rider, admired all things motorcycle and had a deep love for Harley Davidson Motorcycles that no one could compete with (for those that knew him well or spent time with him during the warm months, knew that he wore his love for Harley Davidson permanently 24/7, 365). He was known by most as, “Harley Dave”, and had friends (or made new ones) everywhere he went! With his infectious smile and a one of kind personality, you could not help but notice when he was in a room (his signature, “YOOOUUU WHOOOO!” sealed the deal)! Dave had a large family and many friends who he loved deeply. Spending time with his grandchildren was one of his most treasured things to do; he found amusement in goofing around and playing with them, as he himself was a big kid at heart. He enjoyed attending church services with his wife Vickey at Cross Roads Church. Dave fought hard over the last 3 years, battling multiple significant health issues. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. We have the comfort in knowing that he is no longer suffering and is once again on 2-wheels, revving that Harley up in heaven. Dave is survived by: his wife Vickey Garske; his children: Steven Johnson, and Scott (Brittany Eddy) Johnson; Step-Children: Alexis (Conan) Soine, Karissa (Derrick Langeslay) Pope, Lindsey (Ricky Dixon) Pope; his grandchildren: Destiny Soine, Dylan Johnson, Aaliyah Pope-Pillar, Shayla Johnson, Jaxton Langeslay, Raquelle Dixon and Ledall Dixon; his great-grandchild: Nova Soine-Lee; his father Leonard Johnson; his siblings: DeWayne Johnson, Christine Alfaro, Debbie (Frank) Sackett, Cheryl (Don) Slack, Karen (Bill) Mcelmury, Kenneth Johnson, Michael (Tisha Mager) Johnson, Tim (Trisha) Johnson, and Daniel (LeAnne) Johnson; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother Blanche Johnson and brothers Leonard Johnson Jr. and Kevin Johnson. Due to COVID19 restrictions a small, intimate family viewing was held June 15, 2020. A benefit will be held at Macaluso’s Roadhouse in Vadnais Heights June 27th at 3pm. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held in Hastings July 18th from 2pm-5pm (please visit Dave’s Facebook profile for further details).
