Dixie Lee Tye (née Schad)
July 25, 1040 – May 17, 2020
Dixie died peacefully in her sleep on May 17, 2020. Dixie was born on July 25, 1940 to Charles (Vernon) Schad and Ava Noel Schad. The family, along with older sister Mary Anna, lived in Jerome, ID until the death of Vernon, when they then moved to Kalispell, MT. There, Ava met and married Glen Shepherd who raised the girls and welcomed them into his large family. Dixie graduated with a degree in Education from Eastern Washington College. She began her teaching career in Spokane, WA where she met Clifford Tye on a blind date. They married on May 28, 1966. Dixie moved with Cliff throughout his railroad career before retiring to the Twin Cities to be near their children and grandchildren.
Besides teaching, Dixie was also a homemaker and enjoyed church, volunteering, reading, traveling and visiting with friends and family. Dixie usually had a smile on her face and loved making friends wherever she went. Her greatest joy was being a mother and grandmother. Dixie is survived by her husband Cliff, son Doug (Mara Lee) Tye, and daughter Michelle (Marcus) Sheire; grandchildren Emma, Kathleen, Ben, and Charlotte Tye, and Jackson and Zane Sheire; along with nieces and nephews. Dixie was preceded in death by her parents, sister Mary Anna Zauner.
Dixie lived with MS for almost forty years, never letting it break her spirit or humor. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Upper Midwest Society in Dixie’s name, https://www.nationalmssociety.org/Chapters/MNM/Donate .
A memorial will be planned for a later date. Dixie’s family would like to thank the staff of the Commons on Marice, Fairview Homecare & Hospice for the loving care they gave her.
