Corinne Patricia Laman (née Garoutte)

July 9, 1966 – April 16, 2020
Age 53 of White Bear Lake. God gained a beautiful, brown eyed angel on April 16, 2020. Corinne Patricia (Garoutte) Laman was born on July 9, 1966 in Heron Lake, Minnesota to Dean and Dolores (Graff) Garoutte. She was the ninth of eleven children and was fondly known as Corey. Corey grew up in Heron Lake, MN and graduated from Heron Lake-Okabena High School in 1984. She received a BA in Computer Science/Mathematics from the University of Minnesota at Morris in 1986 and a BA in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities in 1989. She completed her education by obtaining her MA in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion in 1991. Corey thoroughly enjoyed her chosen profession for 31 years and for the last 22 years she worked as a speech therapist for Volunteers of America/Centrex Rehab while living in White Bear Lake, MN.

The best day of Corey’s life was when she became a mother to her loving son, Dean. Corey was a devoted mother and worked tirelessly to make a wonderful life for her son. When he was young, Corey would spend hours sewing Halloween costumes and creating birthday cake masterpieces for him. As he got older, she thoroughly enjoyed watching him play baseball and loved going to Twins baseball games with him. Corey was overjoyed when Dean became engaged to Diana Hausladen and was looking forward to their upcoming wedding.

When she wasn’t working, Corey could be found reading, sewing, playing Wheel of Fortune, or putting together a puzzle. She was a night owl and could easily be up into the early hours of the morning to finish a good book. Corey also enjoyed cooking and baking. She not only loved trying out new recipes in the kitchen, but was always the one to make her Dad his favorite birthday cake every year. Corey loved camping and would spend her vacations at Hobo Park in Starbuck, MN with her family and friends. Corey was a huge Twins fan and had not missed a home opener in many years. She spent years cheering on her Twins (rain, snow, or shine) and loved every minute of it. She was the best fan! Corey loved taking pictures and had the knack of capturing those perfect moments.

Most of all, Corey loved her family and friends. She loved her annual “Sister’s Weekend” trip with her sisters and sisters-in-law, and we know she will continue to attend in spirit. She had a heart of gold and was the first person to step in to help anyone in need. Corey’s great sense of humor was an attraction to all who knew her. She was always smiling, laughing and having fun. She was a joy to be around and her big smile and contagious laugh will be dearly missed.

Corey passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer at Our Lady of Peace in St. Paul, MN, at the young age of 53. She is survived by her son, Dean; her father, Dean; nine siblings; Clint (Melody) Garoutte, Connie (Steve) DeWall, Donna (Dave) Damm, Diane (Don) Voehl, Cathy (Marty) Henkels, Deb (Jim) Nelson, Deano (Sue) Garoutte, Cindy (Joe) Bach and Denise (Randy) Ver Steeg; several aunts and uncles, in-laws (Loretta & Charlie Laman, Timi & Erik Kopacek, Lori White, and Julie & Gary Thole) as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was welcomed into Heaven by her mother and her baby brother, Doug.

A special thank you to the staff and volunteers at Our Lady Of Peace for their wonderful care.
