Daniel Brian Glass
February 18, 1948 – March 11, 2020
Age 72 of Ramsey, Dan peacefully left us while in hospice care at home, with his wife Sherry by his side. Dan and Sherry met online in 1999 on Yahoo Personals, and were blessed with a delightful 20 year marriage. He is also survived by his beloved and caring children, daughter Sarah (Geoff) Grcevich and son Daniel Glass; granddaughter Mira; brothers Mike (Sharon), Peter (Maple) and Tony (Amy) Glass; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Preceded in death by parents Robert and Marjorie Glass, and a number of cherished cats and parakeets. Dan was a lifelong Minnesotan with stints in California, Mexico, and Rhode Island. He earned his BA in music theory and Romance languages, and his MA in Spanish linguistics, at the University of Minnesota. Dan was a quietly extraordinary yet common man, with a wry sense of humor. He could talk to anyone. A gifted self-taught musician, he played guitar professionally, and gave lessons for many years. “I have a lot of interests’ he used to say. These included a lifelong study of religions and the Bible, learning languages (he knew 7), classical music, jazz, the blues, soccer, football, hockey, table baseball, Civil War battle strategy games, online chess (preceded by postal chess), cats and birds, outer space, poetry, Tarot cards, numerology, and books books and more books. He was employed 30 years by the state of MN. We’ll share stories and memories of Dan at a picnic on May 17 in Long Lake Regional Park, New Brighton. Memorials can be made to the Animal Humane Society at animalhumanesociety.org. (Published in the Star Tribune on March 22, 2020)
