Helgesen, Stephanie Margaret

October 12, 1943 – January 28, 2020
On the morning of January 28, 2020, Stephanie M Helgesen, of Minneapolis, died at the age of 76. Stephanie was born to Francis X, and Cecilia Helgesen, in 1943. She received her B.A. from the University of Minnesota, and her Law Degree from William Mitchell College of Law. Always a champion for Social Justice, she actively participated in the civil rights movement in the 60’s, working with voter registration drives in the Deep South. She primarily represented labor unions while practicing law, and in her later years, was able to combine her love of writing, with her fascination with computers, by serving as a technical writer for such companies as Ciprico, Compellent and Dell. She traveled widely, both here and abroad. Her ready smile and sense of humor will be greatly missed by her many friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Barbara (Jerry) Schliep. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs Cecily (Joshua) Schwimmer, granddaughter, Ms. Scarlet Schwimmer, her brother Timothy (Jean) Helgesen, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will take place February 16, 2020, in the common room at her condominium, located at 1200 Nicollet Mall, between 1:00 PM and 5:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be sent to Doctors Without Borders. (Published in the Star Tribune on February 2, 2020)
