Wong, David Pui Sum

April 12, 1949 – January 14, 2020
Age 70 of Oakdale. Dedicated teacher and mentor in the martial arts and life itself, died on Jan. 14, 2020 at Our Lady of Peace Home hospice in Saint Paul after a long illness. Born in Dongguan, China, on April 12, 1949, Pui and his younger brother fled as teenage refugees to Hong Kong, where Minneapolis native Robert McCabe and his wife, Inger, took them into their home and brought them to the U.S., raising them along with their three children. Pui attended Murray High School in St. Paul, earned a certification in electronics at RCA Technical College in New York and ran a small family business in Sauk Rapids and Oakdale, Minnesota. Besides his wife, Mary, the love of his life, survivors include his adored children: daughter Felicia Inger Wong, son-in-law Todd Emerson Page and much doted-upon grandson Felix Robert Emerson Page of Worthing, the U.K.; and son Hylan McCabe Wong of Minneapolis. Besides the three McCabe siblings, Inger McCabe Elliott and three Elliott stepsisters, he is also survived by two sisters and three brothers. He will be remembered for his love of life, cooking, reading, writing, music and gardening and his generosity and open heart to those who needed him. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
