Carlson, William Herbert

Age 89 of Minneapolis, MN, passed away on December 12, 2019. Preceded in death by parents; brother, Richard; sister, Marilyn. Bill was a caring husband and father of two sons who each followed his two main interests. Bill graduated from the U of MN in 1953 with a degree in wildlife biology, turned to a career at Univac in the 1960’s where he was a key in the design of early computer systems. He was also a Korean War army veteran. After retiring from Unisys in 1993, Bill designed & fixed custom lamps before finding sun in Florida. Bill also led a successful home security system business on the weekends, inspired one son in computers, the other son in biology, and helped his wife pursue her psychology degree and career. Bill always found the positive side of any situation or hardship. Survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy; sons, Craig and Daren (Barbora); granddaughters, Izabela and Natalia. Memorial service Friday, December 27, 2019 10 AM at Pilgrim House, 1212 Hwy 96 W, Arden Hills, MN 55112, burial at Ft. Snelling, assembly area 3, promptly at 1:30 PM.
