Zagaros, Mary Ruth (nee Farnsworth)

November 17, 1937 – November 26, 2019
Age 82 of New Brighton, born in Lockport, NY to Ellis and Inez Farnsworth. Proud Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Warrior for Social Justice. Survived by sons Michael (Darlene), Patrick (Patricia), Anthony (Sharon) daughter Laura (Tim) Churchfield and bonus daughter Bitz/Vicki (Mike) Harrington, 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, many cherished friends. Mary spent the majority of her life dedicated to improving the lives of others as a teacher, and by working for the Anoka County Community Action Program and Headstart. She developed many programs aimed at giving the underserved a chance at a better life and was a founder of Alexandra House, a women’s shelter. The family would like to thank the staff from Benedictine and Allina Hospice for the exceptional and dignified care that Mary received. As was Mary’s wish, a backyard Memorial Party is planned for the Spring of 2020. She loved you. (Published in the Star Tribune on November 29, 2019)
