Johnson, Janice Marie (nee Eystad)
January 18, 1946 – October 31, 2019
Age 73 of Ramsey. Passed away on October 31st at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, Minnesota. Janice was born on January 18, 1946 in Graceville, Minnesota to Melvin and Donna Eystad. She graduated from Alberta High School in 1964. Following high school, she worked as a nanny for Dr. Major and Marthe Cohn, taking care of their sons Stephan and Remi. It was with the Cohns she found her love of cooking and collecting recipes, which continued through her life. She put together many cookbooks over the years that were shared with family and friends. In 1965 she began working for Honeywell where she worked for over nine years. She married Noel Irving Johnson on February 13th, 1965. In February 1974 she gave birth to her only child, Nykol (Johnson) Eystad. Janice enjoyed many activities. She was an avid reader and walker, walking 3-5 miles every day. She was a social organizer, planning wine tastings with neighbors and arranging lunches with friends. She also enjoyed gardening, puzzles, antiquing, and genealogy, researching eight branches of the family tree and publishing seven books from the research. Over the years she regularly attended plays at the Theatre in the Round and enjoyed going to bluegrass festivals. She will be remembered for her smile and ability to find the bright side of the worst of situations. Janice was preceded in death by parents, Melvin and Donna Eystad and brother Lee “Duke” Eystad. She is survived by husband, Noel Johnson; daughter, Nykol Eystad; brothers Calvin, Jamey, and Robert; and sisters Kahla Gillispie and Laurie Rollman, and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be held at The Old No. 1 in Morris, Minnesota on December 14th from 1:00 to 4:00pm. A second celebration of life will be held at the Kraus-Hartig VFW in Spring Lake Park, Minnesota on January 18th from 1:00 to 4:00pm. Family and friends are invited to celebrate at one or both events.
