Sharon Lee Niemela (Janke), died on May 4, 2019 at the age 77 years, 6 months, and 15 days. Sharon had battled lung cancer, strokes, and had a fall that she could not recover from. Her funeral service will be held Saturday May 11th at 11 am with a visitation one hour prior. Sharon was born on October 19, 1941 in Shakopee, Minnesota. She met the love of her life, Edwin Niemela, when she was just 17 years old. They got married in December of 1959. They started their family living in Minneapolis, Coon Rapids, Isanti, and finally in Harris. They had 5 children; Tim, Ron, Jeanna, Renee, and Shari. Sharon worked as a mother first, but had various jobs through the years, including Foley Manufacturing Co, and County Market grocery bakery. She loved being home and loved being out making friends in the working world. Sharon and Ed started going south in the winters to Mesa, Arizona. They loved the warm weather and gained many friends in their travels. they continued to go there for over 20 years and enjoyed their time. In 2017 Sharon convinced Ed to take her to the ocean. They enjoyed several months at Orange Beach, Alabama. While they were there they watched the ocean and enjoyed the sunshine. Sharon had many interests and hobbies. She loved to bake and enjoyed doing that with her daughters and granddaughters especially for holidays. She made several embroidered hand towels for herself, family and friends She also enjoyed crocheting blankets. But her favorite pastime had to be playing cards. Years ago they would host poker parties with the neighborhood. In more recent years she enjoyed playing “Pepper” and “Pinnacle” with friends and family. She loved teaching her granddaughters new games and made sure they knew that future husbands should also know how to play cards. One of Sharon’s life desires was to live on a lake. In 2000 she and Ed built a beautiful home on Horseshoe Lake in Harris. She was always so happy to share her home with family. She loved to have everyone over, have a BBQ and sit back and watch everyone enjoy being together. Even though it was always crazy and chaotic she loved every minute. In more recent years family became extremely important as loss, after loss took loved ones. She learned to say “I love you”, she learned to accept Jesus, she learned that the people in her life were the most important thing. In the last weeks of Sharon’s life she made it a priority to let each one of her family know what they meant to her. She made sure to tell everyone to take care of her husband. She cried and fought hard to stay here with us as she said her goodbyes. She said I love you over and over in her last hours before leaving for her next journey.
