Ellingsberg, Daniel Todd
February 21, 1962 – April 28, 2019
Age 57 of Saint Paul, passed away unexpectedly on April 28, 2019 at his home. Daniel was born in Madelia, MN to Albert and Violet (Breitbarth) Ellingsberg on February 21, 1962. He graduated from Madelia High School in 1980 and earned an A.A. degree from Minneapolis Community and Technical College in 1997. Juvenile (Type 1) Diabetes was diagnosed at the age of 2. He lost his vision in 1983 and received a kidney transplant in 1987. In January of 1989, he received his first guide dog, Echo, from The Seeing Eye in Morristown, NJ. While there he met and fell in love with Elizabeth “Betsey” Walters. In September of 1989, they began a 27-year relationship. They lived in Minneapolis and St. Paul. Betsey passed away in September of 2016.
Dan was employed in a number of customer service and training positions and provided computer instruction to State Services for the Blind clients. His interests included: music, concerts, technology, reading, crossword puzzles and darts. He belonged to the Twin Cities Blind Dart League. He loved spending time with family and friends and enjoyed traveling (visiting Arizona, Boston, California, Texas, Las Vegas and Hawaii). Dan was preceded in death by his father, Albert; his fiancé Betsey, and their precious guide dogs: Echo, Bubbles, Grady, Liberty and Vinson; and a niece, Krystal Ellingsberg. Dan is survived by his mother Violet Ellingsberg, St. Paul, MN; siblings Carol Ellingsberg, St. Paul, MN; David (Sharon) Ellingsberg, New Ulm, MN; Gay Ellingsberg (Tom LaDouceur), St. Louis Park, MN; Yvette (Michael) Hennies, Big Lake, MN; nieces and nephews: Camille (Chad) Romanowicz and her son Phoenix June; Tyson (Mary) Schnitker; Callie (Ben) Willenbring and their children Ophelia and Oliver; Eric Ellingsberg; Kyle (Cathryn) Ellingsberg and their son Henry; Nathan (Cherise) Ellingsberg and their children Malia and Aiden; August (Lauren) Hennies; Forrest (Sarah) Hennies; and Danielle Hennies. A Church Service/Celebration of His Life will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, August 3, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Madelia, MN. Visitation will be one hour before the service from 10:00-11:00 am. Cremains will be interred at Riverside Cemetery, Madelia, MN. Memorials may be given to The Seeing Eye, Morristown, NJ.
