Swisher, Clarice Lillian (nee Tack)

Age 85 of Saint Paul. Clarice L. born April 7, 1933, to parents Clarence and Lily Nelson Tack, in Cokato, Minn., passed away on Feb. 24. She is preceded in death by her parents and her ex-husband, Lowell L. Swisher. She is survived by her daughter Karin L. Barnes, her son-in-law Jeffrey M. Barnes, her beloved grandchildren Evan and Jocelyn, her fellow grandmother Lynne M. Barnes, and a host of dearly loved friends and family. Clarice taught high-school English at Atwater High School and at Kennedy High School in Bloomington. After she retired she went on to write and edit educational books for students on a wide range of topics, including Picasso, Einstein, and the works of Shakespeare. Clarice loved to travel with her daughter and with friends, making a last trip to London with her grandson Evan. She relished exploring new discoveries in physics, walking her dog, and picking up her grandchildren from school. Politically involved throughout her adult life, she was often a delegate to the DFL caucuses. She loved attending the Guthrie Theater, the Minnesota Orchestra, the Minnesota Opera, and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. Memorials can be made in her name to the forenamed institutions. A celebration of Clarice’s life will be held at Unity Church Unitarian in the spring. (Published in the Star Tribune on Mar. 10, 2019).
