Age 78 of Minneapolis, died of prostate cancer on March 28, 2019. He was preceded in death by parents, Dr. William A. O’Brien and Virginia O’Brien Larkin who raised him in the University Grove; brother, Dr. William Jr. of Edina and sister, Katie of Stillwater, He is survived by sister, Peg Lawrow of Minneapolis, and brother, Patrick and sister, Molly O’Brien Martin of Stillwater. He graduated from St. Thomas Academy in 1958 and attended the U of M and St. John’s University. He was retired after 35 years in the Neurology Department at North Memorial Hospital. He missed his calling of being an engineer, loved machinery and was a walking encyclopedia in the field. All music genre and live performances complemented his life. Uncle Mike shared an identification with life on the lake with his nieces and nephews who admired his prowess as a slalom skier. Funeral Mass Friday, April 5, at the Church of St. Anne, 2627 Queen Avenue North, Minneapolis 55411 at 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery Minneapolis.
