Gustafson, David Joel Lincoln

Age 91 of Eagan. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, cousin, godfather, and friend, died peacefully in his sleep on Jan. 13th, 2019. The middle of three children, Dave was born in Minneapolis on Feb. 12th, 1927 to Rev. Paul J. A. and Hedvig (Peterson) Gustafson. After several moves within Minnesota, he graduated from St. Peter High School in 1945. Enlisting in the Army, he spent his 18 month military commitment in Korea. He graduated from Gustavus in 1950 and shortly thereafter began a 35 year career as an accountant at Honeywell. He retired in 1986 at the age of 59. While in high school he met Betty Erickson, the love of his life, who became his wife in 1948. They had four sons. Shortly after retirement, they purchased a home in Silver Bay. They spent their time traveling extensively, eventually purchasing a home in Las Vegas where they spent the winter months. Dave loved spending time with all of his family members plus his monthly get-together with his buddies at Broadway Pizza. Additionally he kept busy with lifelong passions: sports (playing, coaching, watching), bridge, hunting agates, latch-hooking, solving jigsaw puzzles and playing games. Dave enjoyed quality time with his numerous faithful canine companions: Ginger, Smokey, Dixie, Sonja, Jake, Lady, Cindy, Tuffy, Joey, Max and Allie. Dave is survived by his four loving sons: Steve of Eagan, Bill (Jeanne) of Las Vegas, Gary (Sue) of Rochester, NY, and Jim (fianc√© Heather McGraw) of Savage; brothers-in-law, Dr. Ray Erickson of Salem, OR and Chuck Jette’ of Las Vegas; sister-in-law Marilyn Erickson of Coon Rapids; grandchildren, Anna, Sam, Joe, Gabe, Erin, Xeni, Kaia, Alex, Libby, CC, and Buster; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years Betty, his mother and father, brother Rev. Paul Abner Gustafson and sister Ruth Jette’. A special thanks to the care team at The Minnesota Masonic Home. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 23rd at 11am at Shepard of the Valley Lutheran Church, 12650 Johnny Cake Ridge Rd, Apple Valley, MN 55124. Visitation with friends and relatives will be from 9:30-11am. Luncheon will be served after the service. Private interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
