Wheat, James Ralph, Jr.
June 29, 1951 – April 8, 2018
Age 66 of Minneapolis. Preceded in death by his parents, Nina Myrl (née Wells) and James Ralph Wheat, and sister, Janice Weaver, of California. Survived by his daughter, Erin Verma (Ravi) of Fremont, CA, and son, James Allen, grandchildren, Rahi and India Verma, and step-grandson Mausam Verma, sister Mariam Jean Dreher (Peter) of Olney, MD, and niece Silvia Dreher of Herndon, VA. Born in Memphis, TN, he grew up in California and attended Macalester College as a National Merit Scholar, later graduating from the University of Minnesota. He worked for the Hennepin County (MN) Information Technology Department. Jim appreciated an eclectic variety of music, was an avid reader, and accomplished genealogist. A dedicated father, he coached youth sports and coached the Barton Open School chess team to victory in the 1991 national middle school chess championship. No memorial service is planned.
