Mapes, Alice Elizabeth (nee Barden)
January 12, 1962 – August 24, 2018
Age 56 of Saint Paul, was with family and friends when she died peacefully at home on Friday, August 24. She was born January 12, 1962 in St. Louis Park to James Norman and Margery L. (Robinson) Barden, and married the love of her life, Jonathan Mapes on October 2, 2014. Alice started working for Impressions, Inc in 1986 as a receptionist. While working there, she graduated from Augsburg College with honors in 1996. Alice then transferred to IT and eventually managed the whole department. She loved her work, as well as all the people who worked around her. Alice was known for her patience, her smile, her wit, her sage advice, her love of growing things and cooking things, things that clucked and things that meowed, and an attitude that would not stop for anything. “Let’s do this!!!” and off she would go on another adventure. Alice is survived by her husband, Jon, siblings Sue Ann Tangorra and James Richard (Wendy) Barden, nephews, Kevin (Sarah) Barden and Scott Barden, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Those who were touched by Alice are invited to a Celebration of Life on September 9, 2018 (between 1:00 and 4:00) at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, Snyder Auditorium, 3675 Arboretum Drive, Chaska, MN 55317, to tell stories, grieve together and reminisce about this wonderful woman. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Doctors Without Borders, Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, or American Cancer Society. (Published in the Star Tribune on September 2, 2018).
