Powers, Patricia Louise
March 12, 1936 – May 29, 2017
Age 81 of Brooklyn Park. Passed away at her home in Brooklyn Park, MN. She is survived by her loving spouse, Laura Gaia, and siblings Marie (John) Braun, Betty (Mike) Morson, and Kathy Powers. She was preceded in death by her parents Antoinette and Leonard Powers, siblings Jim, Jerry and Nancy Powers. She earned a masters degree in math from Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, and worked as both an elementary teacher and a high school math teacher for many years. She was one of the founders of Women Against Military Madness, which held their early meetings in Loretta’s Tea Room, a restaurant that she owned with her sister Kathy. She was a social activist for much of her life, with a strong commitment to peace and justice. Pat was a kind and loyal friend who loved ritual, ceremony, and the Goddess. Her connection to the earth defined many of the paths she chose to follow, including being laid to rest in a green cemetery on a bed of flowers. She was much loved and will be dearly missed by her spouse and her community of friends and family. (Published in the Star Tribune on June 10, 2017).
