LaVigne, James Arthur
November 1, 1930 – August 28, 2017
Age 86 of Saint Paul. Jim grew up in Northeast Minneapolis, graduating from Edison High School in 1948. After Army service in Japan, he attended the University of Minnesota and became an early computer programmer. He married Margaret Ann Ackerman of Mapleton, Minnesota. They raised three daughters in St. Paul’s Macalester-Groveland neighborhood. He loved folk music, back roads, and historical markers. An old-school shade-tree mechanic, Jim drove his Model T Ford in each of the lower 48, logging 64,192 total miles. He was a doting grandfather to seven grand-children. Preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Lillian (Olson) LaVigne, he is survived by his daughters Joan Ryan (Jim), Mary Jane LaVigne (Allen Christian), Anne Duncan (Steve), grandchildren Emily, Maggie, Ben, Jake, Ellen, Abby, and Will and a great-grandson, Lachlan. Also survived by his sister Yvonne Henderson (Don) and his former wife Margaret Ann LaVigne. Funeral service Saturday, September 2, 2017, White Bear Unitarian Universalist Church, 328 Maple St. Mahtomedi, MN 55115. Visitation 9AM, service 10AM, interment in Esdaile Cemetery, Pierce County, Wisconsin.
