Age 100 of Winona, left her life here on earth peacefully at home on April 2, 2017. Effie is survived by her four sons Daniel (Linda) Lange of Burnsville, Minn.; Doug Lange of Wabasha; David Lange of Winona; and Dwight Lange of Winona; her grandchildren Mark Lange of Minneapolis, Minn.; Brian Lange of Burnsville, Minn.; Scott Lange of San Francisco, Calif.; Arron (Mandi) Lange of Minnesota City; Jeff (Willy) Lange of St. Petersburg, Fla.; Bil (Shannon) Schmidtknecht of DeForest, Wis.; Ryan Lange of Winona; Katie (Luke Reed) Lange of Winona; and Danielle (Jaran Defries) Lange of Winona; her great-grandchildren Noah, Jacob, Ella, and Asher Lange of Minnesota City; and Dane and Cole Schmidtknecht of DeForest, Wis.; and dear friend Rochelle Hawkins of Winona. She is preceded in death by her husband David (Woodie) Lange, her parents, her two brothers and five sisters, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Effie was born on June 24, 1916, in Oklee, Minn., to parents Donald and Katherine (Donahue) Stoneouse. She was the youngest of eight children. She graduated with a degree in nursing and worked briefly at St. Luke’s Hospital in St. Paul, Minn., before enlisting in the United States Army where she earned the rank of First Lieutenant. She had many stories from her time overseas as a World War II nurse. She married David (Woodie) Lange on December 14, 1946. Effie spent her life caring for others. When she wasn’t caring for her boys, she was working third shift at the Winona Hospital where she worked for the last 35 years of her 50-year nursing career before retiring at the age of 70. In retirement, she dedicated much of her time to caring for her grandchildren and spent many days under the sun in her garden. She was an avid Twins fan and will now have the best view for baseball season. She will be deeply missed by all her family who she so selflessly cared for and loved throughout the years. A memorial is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 14, 2017, at Fort Snelling Cemetery in St. Paul, Minn., with military honors. Family would like to thank Calista Court of Winona and Winona Health Hospice Care for all the love and guidance they gave Effie and her family throughout her last months. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the charity of your choice in her memory. (Published in the Winona Post on Apr. 10, 2017)
