Hovland, Cory John

Age 55, of Pine City, passed away on Feb. 4, 2017, at J.A. Wedum Residential Hospice in Brooklyn Park. Cory was born on Oct 24, 1961 to John and Florence (Formo) Hovland in Fergus Falls, MN. He attended Dalton School until 2nd grade and Ashby Public School until he graduated in 1980. He attended Moorhead Technical College, studying Farm Business. Cory was a cook at various restaurants, and held many other jobs until he started driving Semi trucks in later years, most recently for Viking Coke, until his health forced him to retire. Cory enjoyed traveling, taking trips to the Caribbean with his wife and friends, and attending many cat shows in the US and Canada to show pedigreed and household pet cats with his wife and stepson. Cory also enjoyed playing cards and games, visiting the casino, cooking and having bon fires in the back yard. Cory is survived by his wife, Karen, Pine City; stepsons, Kelly and Matt Overholser, Pine City; father, John Hovland, Dalton; sister, Denise (Jim) Marsland, Duluth; mother in law, Phyllis Overholser, Pine City; brother in law, Steve (Chris) Overholser; sister in law, Sherry Overholser; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Florence Hovland, sister in law, Sue Ryan, father in law, Walt Overholser, his grandparents, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. There will be a Graveside Service in Cory’s hometown of Dalton, MN on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 11:00. Please join the family, after the service, at the Dalton Free Lutheran Church, for lunch and a casual celebration of Cory’s life.
