Delaney, Joyce Elaine (nee Gullickson)

Age 88 of St. Cloud, Minnesota died peacefully, surrounded by family in White Bear Lake, Minnesota on April 28, 2016 from complications resulting from a series of strokes.Joyce was born in Marshall, Minnesota on March 12, 1928 to Alfreda and Lyle Gullickson. Together with her mother and father and brother Donald, who is deceased, Joyce lived in Marshall and Northfield before settling in Red Wing in time for her high school years. In those high school years Joyce played clarinet in the marching band and was honored as Red Wing High School’s homecoming queen in 1946. Joyce attended Hamline University for one year following high school.While working at a local bank in 1949 Joyce met Edward Bernard Delaney who would become her husband in 1950. Joyce and Edward lived in Red Wing and White Bear Lake before moving to St. Cloud in 1959. Edward preceded Joyce in death passing on April 29, 1997. Joyce is survived by her daughter Erin Carlson of White Bear Lake, Erin’s husband Rick Carlson, their sons David and Dan, daughters-in-law Elise and Brianna and three great grandchildren. Joyce is also survived by her son Kevin Delaney of Windsor Colorado, Kevin’s wife Karen, their three daughters Trinette, Kelsey and Kayla and two great grandchildren.Joyce was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church for over 50 years. Once her children were out of high school Joyce went to work for the United Way in St. Cloud. She then went to work for Wal-Mart where she was a world-class greeter for twenty years, retiring in September 2015 at age 87.Joyce will be lovingly remembered as a great mother whose energy and determination was an inspiration to her family and friends. The family plans on a celebration of life to be held in June prior to internment at Camp Ripley cemetery. May she rest in peace with her maker. (Published in the St. Cloud Times on May 8, 2016)
