Swanson, Carl Richard
April 22, 1934 – June 16, 2015
Age 81 of St. Michael. Born April 22, 1934, in Cokato. Middle name Richard, family called him “Dick.” He graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1956, and served our Country as a First Lieutenant in the Marine Corps, based in Okinawa. He worked in the fiberglass and plastic industry for 30 years, owning and operating Swanson Fiberglass Repair for many of those years. One of Carl’s passions was preventing the spread of invasive plant species in lakes. As President of the Minn. Lakes Assoc. he testified before the Legislature in support of the “Milfoil” bill. That legislation became law, helping to protect our lakes today. He also served as President of the Greater Lake Sylvia Assoc. Besides his love of lakes, he enjoyed volunteering at his church as a reader, greeter, and a deep bass singer in the choir. His love of music carried over to his singing in the Three Rivers Chorale and serving as its Board President. Dick was a loving husband and father. He will be mourned and missed by his family. Dick is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jean; brother, David (Joanne); sons, Peter (Anna) and Erik (Paula); grandchildren, Wyatt, Mei Bryn, Carl and Frederick. Memorial service will be held on Sun., July 12, 2 PM at Word of Peace Lutheran Church, 21705 129th Ave. N., Rogers. Visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
