Hawkinson, Bruce Elwood
October 11, 1935 – November 10, 2015
Age 80, died on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2015, from complications of Lewy Body Dementia. He was born on October 11, 1935, in Menomonie to Oscar and Myra (Brunner) Hawkinson. He attended schools in North Menomonie, graduating from Menomonie High School in 1955. He entered the Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1959. He worked for Sanna Dairies for several years. In 1960 he joined a small group of enthusiasts who formed the Skyport Flying Club. Bruce obtained his single engine pilot’s license. He met Marcie Hobbick through the flying club and in 1963 they married and moved to Eau Claire where he worked for Uniroyal. Bruce adopted Marcie’s daughter Mary Enid in 1965. Bruce and Marcie loved to hunt and fish, and in 1965 they bought a cabin near Springbrook. They divorced in 1974, and Bruce bought a nearby cabin. The Northwoods was his true home, and he lived there on his own, with the help of friends and neighbors until July 2015 when his deteriorating health forced him to move to Bethel Care Center in St Paul, Minnesota. Survivors include his daughter, Mary Enid Fares; grandsons Ryan and David Fares of Plano, Texas; nephews Ralph and Lee Whiteaker of New Mexico; nieces Carol Molloy of Pennsylvania and Bobbi Weber and Becky Smith of Minnesota; and several friends in the Springbrook area. His parents and two sisters, Marian Whiteaker and Muriel Tylee, preceded him in death. A military honors service will be held at 11 a.m. on July 5, 2016, at Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner.
