Graves Jr., Clarence Joseph
November 13, 1924 – December 13 2015
Clarence Joseph Graves, Jr. passed from the arms of his family into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 13, 2015, in Blaine, Minnesota at the age of 91. A Celebration in honor of his life will be held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 4101 Washington Street NE, Columbia Heights, Minnesota on Monday, December 21, 2015, with a visitation at 10:00 AM, service at 11:00 AM, and lunch following. Clarence was born November 13, 1924 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Clarence and Gladys (Berg) Graves. He graduated from Columbia Heights High School and served his country as a Navigator and Second Lieutenant in the Army of the United States Air Corp. He was also a trained pilot and flying was his passion. After serving his country, Clarence continued on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from the University of Minnesota. He and his brother Eugene owned and successfully ran Graves Interiors for over 26 years. Clarence met his beloved wife Muriel when folk dancing in 1953 and then taught her how to play golf. They were married for 52 incredible years. They both loved the Lord and were always active within the church. Clarence loved evangelizing and sharing about the Lord. He was an elder, Bible teacher, and lover of the Word. Clarence and Muriel loved any kind of dancing, camping, playing cards, games, and watching movies with their children. They were heartbroken when their dear 22 year old son, Jeff, died unexpectedly in a tragic climbing accident on El Capitan in Yosemite, but they knew they would see him again in eternity. Clarence had a tremendously kind spirit and deep love for his family. He was a devoted husband, dad, and grandpa. He was optimistic, upbeat, and always acting silly and making people laugh. He loved those around him and it showed in his character. He will always be remembered as a man with unfailing patience, unconditional love, unlimited kindness, and a beautiful smile. His gentle and thoughtful spirit brightened so many lives and these will be memories that we will forever cherish and hold close to our hearts. Clarence always had a sparkle in his eye and will be deeply missed by his loving daughter, Leslie (Graves) Dufault; grandchildren, Pamela (Douglas) Nelson, Tony Dufault, Samantha (David) Kurien, and Jacob Dufault; great-grandchildren, Kaila, Ryan, and Hannah Kurien and Lucas Nelson; brother, Eugene (Jeannette) Graves; sister, Shirley Sagedal; and nieces and nephews.
Clarence is preceded in death by his precious wife, Muriel; beloved son, Jeffrey Joseph; dearest son-in-law, Allen Dufault; father, Clarence Graves, Sr.; mother, Gladys Graves; sisters, June Skogquist and Judith Hammerstad. On behalf of Clarence’s family we would like to especially thank North Memorial Hospice, Carmel Sheridan, and the caregivers at Edgewood Senior Living for their support, love, and gentle kindness.
