Elmore Jr., Walter Joseph
April 17, 1938 – March 31, 2015
Age 76 of Balsam Lake, WI, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at Regions Hospital from heart failure. He was born April 17, 1938 in Valley, Mont., to Margaret Studley and Walter Elmore. He was united in marriage to Betty Lou Walter and divorced in 1963. He remarried Betty in 1968 and divorced again in 1978. Walter then married Mavis L. Lampi on Nov. 4, 1978. They were happily married for 32 years. Walter and Mavis enjoyed many years together traveling the United States, touring, visiting friends and family. He also enjoyed wood turning and created many beautiful items to sell at a variety of boutiques. Walter served in the Navy for four years and was honorably discharged. He then joined the Coast Guard and served with them for 22 years. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother Robert Elmore; and sisters Mary Jane Studley, Margaret Abramson, Mae Dean Elmore (infant) and Fern Neuberg. Walter is survived by his daughters, Sonya (Michael) Van Duker Forbes, Minn., Tammy Grimes Britt, Minn., Kelly Gilliam-Taylor (Terry) Severn, Md.; his son Michael (Cheryl) Elmore Crofton, Md.; step-sons, Rick (Sue) Johnson, Kelly and Robert McKenna; step daughter Laurel McKenna; grandchildren Kristopher and Joshua Van Duker; Jessica Lantz, Logan Wedin; Ryan, Matthew, Connor and Mercedes Elmore; Jacob, Joshua, and Justin Taylor great-grandchildren Shawn Van Duker and Anthony Aguirre; step-grandchildren Kelci and Dillon McKenna; sisters, Eileen Wood and Vera Reimer and brother Arthur Elmore. GATHERING OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS: 1 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2015 in the Lake Superior Maritime Museum Park (600 South Lake Avenue Duluth). Service officiated by Roger Davin. (Subject to weather, service may be moved into Grandma’s Duluth (600 South Lake Avenue) banquet room where a luncheon will be served after the service is complete. Burial will be provided at a later date by the U.S. Coast Guard for burial at sea.
